Baoli Hearts

Our genuine passion for sharing the wellbeing values don’t end here and by giving 5% of our profits we dedicate ourselves to directly support and raise awareness of number of charities whose activities and believes are close to our hearts. This year we are a proud partner of JJK Gurukulam in Kerala, India.

Through Baoli Hearts, we directly and indirectly support number of charities, programs and activities at home and internationally which we believe deserve our attention and help. Each year we try to bring your awareness to a special project that we will be contributing to financially, responding to its specific needs and requirements and continuing to follow its progress. Finally, we would like to open the minds and hearts of individuals as well as companies to join us in our efforts and make a difference in the world we all live in.

JJK GURUKULAM. This year we would like to introduce you to an amazing project that we set our hearts on a couple of years ago upon meeting a truly inspirational person and teacher Swami Tattvarupananda during our travels and yoga training in India. Under his spiritual guidance a care home JJK Gurukulam has been set up in Trivandrum in Southern India and has taken up the issue of protecting children of less privileged and dysfunctional families to give them an opportunity to lead normal lives. The aim of the Gurukulam is to promote and preserve the age-old Indian way of life based on Vedic heritage and the vision that sustains it.

What is JJK Gurukulam. A Gurukulam is a place where a teacher and students live together and learn the scriptures. Guru means ‘teacher’, Kulam means ‘home’. In ancient India the custom was that when a child becomes 7 or 8 years old, he stayed with the Guru (master or teacher) for 12 years and learned the scriptures. It has been proved now that this is the best system to impart knowledge to a child.

Such a tradition is being maintained in JJK Gurukulam and it is one of the rarest places where teaching of Yoga, Vedanta and Sanskrit takes place. They select children that come from poor families where often father or mother or both are missing or in such distress that the family is unable to give the necessary care and proper education to the child.

In addition to providing shelter, clothes and books they are serving three vegetarian meals per day. The daily schedule in the Gurukulam includes chanting, studies and hatha yoga classes. Due to the importance of English language they have also taken special care to provide classes so that the children are able to read and write in English. The children are sent to the public school nearby.

Currently, JJK Gurukulam cares for 17 children within 9-15 years of age. The children have regular contact with their families and they spend school holidays in their own homes. The JJK Gurukulam is located in Trivandrum in Kerala, India, a serene and beautiful area, surrounded by coconut trees and once an ancient city with a tradition dating back to 1000 BC.

How you can participate. Your support in cash and kind is the only source to sustain these ‘Gurukulams’ and make a difference in children’s lives. JJK Gurukulam’s goal is to find enough sponsors for all the 365 days of the year to run the operation. Your contribution helps them to cover a part of the day’s operating expenses including meals, utilities and maintenance. You can commit to a regular gift or send a one-off donation to defray the cost of these expenses; every amount received is acknowledged, accounted and duly audited. Let your support be a defining moment of a child’s life and a self-fulfilling event of yours.
