tibits Vegetarian Restaurant

Fast food vegetarian cuisine in an atmosphere of a high-class restaurant at affordable prices? That's tibits, a successful dining concept created by the three brothers which started up in Switzerland over ten years ago, and put down roots in London back in 2008. Being huge fans of healthy eating ourselves, we couldn’t wait to try what tibits have on their menu.

Located on trendy Heddon Street at the heart of Piccadilly, tibits is a Mecca for vegetarians. This stylish and tastefully decorated eatery can create a false impression of a fancy expensive restaurant from the outside. But what’s inside is a friendly, buzzy atmosphere of veggie lovers, a very roomy place that can easily accommodate over a hundred people at a time, with a dedicated space for mums with kids.

The restaurant’s centrepiece is a massive “food boat” with over 40 freshly made hot and cold dishes to choose from. Don’t spend too much time trying to pick one over the other, just go ahead and try a bit of everything as every titbit of it is as delicious.

Pop over to the bar to order a freshly squeezed juice, Masala chai tea or a glass of wine, if that’s what you fancy.

Using seasonal ingredients, the menu at tibits is influenced by a wide variety of cuisines, from Asian and Indian to Mediterranean.

I hope you don’t feel too hungry right now as I’m about to go through just a few mouth-watering dishes to be scooped out of the “food boat”: frittata with spring vegetables, Greek lasagne with spinach and feta cheese, Lebanese lentil hotpot, mushroom risotto made with spelt rice, honey roasted parsnips and sweet potatoes, Thai green aubergine curry, Mediterranean quiche with organic spelt, tomatoes and thyme, Beetroot horseradish salad… (I warned you!)

One of my favourites, and the restaurant’s iconic bestseller, is the dried bean salad with walnuts and coriander. Heavenly! The restaurant had so many customers asking to spill the beans and share the recipe that it’s now available on a handy postcard for you to pick up from the restaurant. And as the right type of dried beans can be hard to find, tibits is now selling them in 100g bags.

Those who work around W1 are very lucky; they can enjoy a delicious healthy breakfast or lunch at tibits at the price of a sandwich and a drink from a coffee shop. Handily, all the food is also available to take away. Next time you are in the area, by all means pop into tibits and try the food that loves you back.
